Colleagues from our Poole office hit the road for a 10-mile trek to raise hundreds of pounds for our supported charity Diverse Abilities.
Ten members of our team started from our new Dorset headquarters and completed the challenge on June 6 in just over three hours.
The challenging route was a circuit that included sections of the Castleman Trailway – which follows the old Southampton to Dorchester railway line.
It began with a relentless climb into the hills around Corfe Mullen village, continuing to the towns of Wimborne and then Broadstone. The last part of the journey offered some respite with a descent to Creekmoor Lakes.
Plamen Atanassov, who organised and led the walk, said: “The walk was amazing, the spirit of the walkers was high, and we completed the uphill 10-mile challenge in just over three hours. We started as a group of 10 and finished as a group of 10.
“The views were spectacular, and the swans delighted us with their presence at the lakes. Everyone was pretty tired at the end, and the finish at our new local pub The Acorn was very welcome.”
Those taking part in the walk, and others who were unable to join, donated to a JustGiving page set up for the challenge at https://www.justgiving.com/page/unicard-charity-event.
Our Poole office’s chosen charity is Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity. It has been supporting children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities across the county since 1955. Its work includes running a school for young children and teenagers who have disabilities and complex medical needs. It also provides adult services ranging from 24/7 supported living to physio and other activities.
All the money raised by the walk will go to Diverse Abilities. A donation of £26 can fund an hour of care, help and support for a family in their own home.
The JustGiving page will continue to accept donations until July 1st.
